Well, Honestly nobody would have a perfect answer for that - not even Cisco but yes anybody who sells Cisco can give you a very good sales pitch on how Cisco is better... But lets discuss the things which actually make Cisco a better IT OEM than anybody else in the world. Lets have a look at this point by point.
Innovation - I am sure you all would agree to this, Cisco had always been an innovator in its domain - it could be CDP, VTP, Sequence Number Randomization, HSRP. GLBP, OER, PfR,Telepresence, LISP and the list goes on, Cisco had always been the first one to release these features. Though other vendors and IEEE tries to suddenly come up with a compatible and comparitive solution but none of them is at par even till date. Competitors generally try to criticise saying that Cisco has a new IOS coming every month and its not easy to keep all your devices updated but this happens because there is hell lot of R&D going on in Cisco's lab and they are trying to make your network a better place with every single IOS release.
TAC Support - Okie.. Again you all would agree that Cisco stands far ahead then any other vendor when it comes to Technical Assistance or TAC Support. There tech support is simply phenomenal. They have their TAC centers running across the globe to support different time zones 24x7x365 and that too with toll free numbers. They have the best and well trained resources on the lines to help you, and why not we all learn networking technologies from Cisco
Availablity of Trained Manpower - As I said earlier in this post, We all learn networking technologies from Cisco, Thats bcoz who so ever plans to learn networking has to start with CCNA. Best part is configuration of Cisco's IOS remains same on all the devices so, if anybody is trained on 1841 router should be able to work on 7200 as well. Cisco has the biggest traning base available in the world and 90% of the professionals prefer getting certified on Cisco. So, you can find a Cisco engineer wherever you want - Isnt that awesome !!!
Trust - Trust is something which could not be built overnight. Cisco is one of the oldest vendor in this arena and have staggering 80% of the market share. Cisco has installbase at millions of Datacenter those who had upgraded their hardware several times repeatedly on Cisco. All these people cant be worng.
So, With all these points above I am sure you would be able to understand that its not about 128 GBPS vs 140 GBPS of switch backplane (Which you would never use on that switch), its much more than that. With Cisco you would have someone to attend your call immidiately as soon as your appliance crashes, with rest all yeah there might be someone ;-)
